Like many Canadian golfers who have travelled the country to play golf, I've had the chance to play several Thomas McBroom courses. This one became a favourite by the time I reached the first tee. The scenery at Tobiano is second to none including spectacular views of Kamloops Lake, the tee shot on the par 5 8th hole never numbs the mind, and the down hill narrow 5th hole is one of the funkier Par 4s I've played in a long time.
Playing Tobiano for the first time is one of those rare 'pinch me' moments. If the 18 holes don't blow you away, the classy yet fun clubhouse takes the term 'open concept' to a whole new level with it's strikingly large garage style doors that bring the beauty of the outdoors indoors. Who ever designed this house of golf deserves gets an extra thumbs up for the cool showers set up in the unique restrooms outside. Why don't more golf courses think of these little details?
Be aware: don't try the Chimichurrie Chicken Sandwich during golf as it may take away your concentration and lead to slow play. Wait to after play has finished or get there early to enjoy it before you hit the practice range.
I like to play as many golf courses as I can at least once. Tobiano is on my list of courses I want to play 'as much as I can.' Some golf courses tend to cheat a bit and their promo shots fall under the "may not appear exactly as shown" category, Tobiano also falls into this group. But in this case, the real deal is even better than those cool shots you see on the postcards.
