Golf Digest Ranks Tobiano #90 Amongst World’s 100 Greatest Golf Courses

On June 28th, Golf Digest released its fifth biennial World’s 100 Greatest Golf Courses ranking for 2022, with Tobiano named at #90! Including renowned golf courses from over 25 countries, Tobiano is thrilled to be recognized among 12 Canadian courses and two British Columbia courses named to this prestigious list.

“There aren’t many places in Canada as ruggedly beautiful as Tobiano, perched on benchland next to Kamloops Lake. The holes work an Ocean Course at Kiawah kind of routing, with each nine moving outward in opposite directions on inland ground before turning and coming back along the water…for the public player’s money, there’s more visceral excitement at Tobiano than almost anywhere else on the continent.” – Derek Duncan and Ron Whitten, Golf Digest

“I’ve often said that ‘Tobiano is literally as good as it gets,’ and as one of my all-time favourites to design, I am thrilled to see Tobiano earn that recognition, among some truly esteemed company, with its inclusion on Golf Digest’s World’s Best Golf Courses for 2022! On behalf of the Tobiano team, we would like to extend our thanks to the international panel of judges who selected Tobiano for inclusion, as well as the incredible team of staff that is so dedicated to ensuring that golfers receive an exhilarating Tobiano experience every single visit. For those who have yet to have enjoyed the rugged lakeside terrain of Tobiano in Kamloops, British Columbia, we invite you to soak up the scenic views of Kamloops Lake from every hole, dramatic elevation changes, ravines, natural grasses, welcoming fairways and smooth undulating greens that make Tobiano one of the finest, most picturesque golf courses in the world!” – Thomas McBroom, Tobiano Golf Course Architect

As Tobiano’s first year included in Golf Digest’s world rankings, the team is excited to see what the future will hold and looks forward to continuing to build its reputation as a world-class golf course!

Being part of a golf course rated as one of the World’s 100 Greatest Golf Courses by Golf Digest is an unbelievable feeling for me, and I thank Golf Digest and their reviewers for bestowing this incredible honour on Tobiano. The people who initially had the vision for a golf course on this scenic plateau, the people who constructed the golf course and all the staff who work every day to keep Tobiano in such excellent condition, greet and serve guests and help out in any way they can have made Tobiano a truly unique experience – thank you for everything you have done.  Also, a big thank you to our members and guests who support and promote Tobiano in many ways, and to golfers everywhere who play golf and encourage others to take up our wonderful sport.” – Michael Ternier, Owner of Tobiano Golf Course

The rankings are determined by a group of 350 panellists from across the globe who live outside of the United States to provide an international point of view. Other notable Canadian public golf courses recognized on the list include Cabot Cliffs, Cabot Links, and Cape Breton Highland Links in Nova Scotia (#10, #39 and #94), Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge, and Fairmont Banff Springs in Alberta (#75 and #88). Fellow British Columbia golf course, Capilano Golf & Country Club, ranked at #76 and fellow Thomas McBroom design, Memphrémagog Golf Club in Quebec ranked at #83. Ranking at position number one for all previous polls since 2014 is the Royal Country Down Golf Club in Northern Ireland, the birthplace of golf.

Thank you to the panellists for recognizing Tobiano as one of the world’s top golf courses. Of course, this prestigious ranking could not have been possible without the hard work and dedication of the Tobiano staff, we sincerely appreciate their continued efforts which enabled Tobiano to be listed among the best in the world.
